Written by Colonel Mayne, one of its commanding officers – and the man commanding the defence of the bridge at Alcantara – this first-hand account provides details of the history and accomplishments of this extraordinary military group. The main facts are also confirmed by other historical sources. It was essential to writing Flashman in the Peninsula.
